coppermine > Supplies arrive to build the track panel
coppermine > Two rails, ties. metal plates, guage rods, and spikes are unloaded.
coppermine > A few extra ties are delivered for use around the track panel.
coppermine > Rock, called ballast, arrives.
coppermine > Two loads should be enough. This is number one, unwashed.
coppermine > A litte paint to help keep the whole thing square. Ties must be level.
coppermine > One at a time, each placed at 24 inches apart and perfectly level side to side and one to another.
coppermine > Getting ready for the plates. Each rail weighs 100 pounds per foot. At 39 feet that is 1,300 pounds apiece.
coppermine > We made a spacer to keep the correct guage. The rails are mounted on the plates and using a come-along they are squeezed at the correct guage. Spikes are next.
